The Official Mike Keneally Website

Floodgates, open!

May 27 2021

Thank you for reading this post, which is the first one I’ve made for this page since March 20, 2020, right at the beginning of lockdown, one week after getting home from the interrupted Devin Townsend tour. One might think, wouldn’t one, that in the ensuing 14 ½ months the front page of this website would have swelled obscenely from all the new website-specific content I’d be creating in this exciting new hermetic pandemic environment. It didn’t! I was distracted!

But I’m about to post a large bunch of things (all of which will provide details of these various distractions). This post acts as my public pronouncement of this emerging reality, so that I am now duty-bound to deliver a copious series of posts to you, each of which highlights a thing I’ve done over the past year, or a thing I’m currently doing, or about to do, or am thinking, or sump’m. (And I’m delivering all of the posts to Antal, who will very kindly be posting them here. Thank you Tal for doing this, and for years of friendship and support and maintaining this site so well, and patiently waiting for me to provide some sort of content).

Wow, right?

Wow, right?

About a week ago I was on the road with Devin Townsend, and also in the midst of composing a big old essay for this website…a super long one, like an old-school Mike Types To You missive from the halcyon days of keneally.com, full of solid info and tangential, irrelevant asides – and then the world had other plans for all of us, and made a whole lot of the stuff I was writing about REALLY irrelevant, especially regarding future gigs which can now best be described as “up in the air.”

So, I won’t burden you with all that. But boy, it was a great essay! (Actually I just re-read it and I’d describe it as pretty good. But everything looks different through March 20 eyes than it did through March 11 eyes, which was the night we called a halt to the Devin Townsend tour halfway through and all headed home as quickly as we could.)

Hello! Baby, hello!

That’s an Elton John quote, did you recognize it?

I’m playing in Escondido at the California Center For The Arts on Sunday Feb. 16, which, if you’re reading this on the day it’s been posted, is today. This is me trying to get back in the swing of keeping this website updated with relevant info. How’m I doin’ so far?

I’ll be playing a set of my music, including some brand new stuff, and several enticing cover tunes, with the marvelous San Diego group Back To The Garden backing me up. We have been working on a new album together over the last few months and we’ll premiere a couple of the tunes from it at this gig.
