Taylor Acoustic Clinic
Monster Music & Sound
Independence, MO
June 1, 2001
Worst job in music: Rick Nielsen's guitar tech.
Best job in music: Guest Host for Mike Keneally clinic.
The gig was SO easy, in fact, that my presence was, essentially, unnecessary. The staff at Monster Music had everything under control and the night went off smoothly.
I haven't had the chance to see BFD live yet, but the opportunity to see MK and Bryan Beller in this setting was a real treat. Their acoustic renderings of "Live in Japan" and "Inca Roads" were, in a word, completely totally utterly amazing. Okay, one word didn't cut it.
Not only were MK and BB engaging with their playing and discussions, but both proved to be complete masters of the highly technical details of Taylor guitars. (Okay, so Beller was- but Mike was a complete master of Steely Dan trivia...)
So, while I didn't get to barbeque or shoot pool w/ the guys, I did meet them briefly. Total pros and really nice people. I think Mike was jealous of my Eric Dolphy t-shirt. Until next time, Tingalang with a Molehead.
