Ex-Zappa guitarist offers up an improvised feast
[Three stars]

By Simon Bradley, Guitarist [UK], Summer 2006

A fascinating live outing from the former Zappa henchman that allows his consummate skill for improvisation to be enjoyed by all. Although more commonly known as a keyboard player thanks to his outings with Steve Vai, Keneally isn't exactly a slouch on the guitar, and his huge tone and dextrous fingers insure that his expression never misses its target.

Contrary to what you may expect, the material is actually simple to get into, and although the likes of Uglytown, Spoon Guy and a kerrazy interpretation of Lightnin' Roy can twist melons if you let them, only the deaf and dull would dismiss Machupicchu or the rocking Quimby out of hand. Visit Keneally's website and do yourself a favour: get some therapy.

Standout tracks: Quimby, Voyage To Manhood, Uglytown
